How the COVID-19 Lockdown Has Changed Our Online Orders

Business owner Sean responded to a Q&A in May 2020, his responses are below:

"It affected some larger projects, but seems more orders from small development, renovation, and home improvement, as people locked down at home, have more time to renovate house and install underfloor heating.

Our postal orders and online orders have rocketed, as high street shops such as B&Q and Selco are all closed, the only way people can buy is from online, we have great presence in Search Engines, we consistently see orders booming every day."

What Year Was Your Company Founded?

I established Underfloor Heating Express in 2015, building up to this I graduated in Nottingham Uni and spent 20 years in UK and my work experience in England started as an IT Consultant for JLT Insurance Group in London.

Growing up I was part of a family-ran company working part time for my Father and Uncle which has an Underfloor Heating installation project company in China. This is Gold Light Underfloor Heating, based in Northern city of Shenyang; they grow to be ranked No1 in the top 100 underfloor heating companies in China.

I was working hard on building sites to learn underfloor heating skills quite literally from the ground upwards as I was contracted in the design and build of a skyscraper with multiple floors at this time.

Notably, my uncle Shiyong Liu is the Vice Chair of China Underfloor Heating Association with intensive knowledge in the field.

One of our proudest projects we took in 2020 is to build underfloor heating in Shenyang Baoneng Global Financial Centre designed by Atkins, 568 Metres high as one of highest in the world. It's still under contruction today.

I learned knowledge first hand and have expert insider knowledge in large scale underfloor heating materials and components, hence the logical decision to form my own company in here the UK.

Where did your UFH business begin?

In rented Property in Chertsey, on the M25 west of capital. Started my own online shops on eBay and Amazon.

How many people work for you at present?

10 people including myself, I am a proud employer and value all of my staff members.

Do you have any staff working from home who would normally be in the office? If so, will you change your business model moving forwards in any ways?

We have staff working from home, but the impact is minimal, such as architect design project from home, office based roles are running smoothly, software and PC hardware has been set up at home same as in the office, customer had no impact and seamless transition. Fully operational services in our store location despite the COVID lockdown restrictions.

What size are your current warehouses?

We have 2 warehouses, our headquarters are based in Bermondsey in London, SE16 3LF, and serves as our Head office and collection warehouse.

The 2nd warehouse is our main operational one located in Poole, Dorset with around 10,000 sqft.

What's the cutoff time to pay for an order for same day despatch?

Cutoff time is 2pm Monday-Friday

What days of the week do you despatch?

We despatch Monday to Friday
